“A whisper of mercy, caught between one step and a fall.”

I’d like to share with you an experience that still fills me with quiet awe whenever I remember it.

It happened after my doctor’s appointment at St. Luke’s BGC. My wife was with me. Since his office was only on the second floor, we decided to take the escalator instead of waiting for the busy elevator.

The place was unusually still that morning. I asked my wife to go ahead while I told my nurse to bring my luggie (wheelchair) down by elevator and meet us in the lobby.

As I placed my foot on the first step of the escalator, my knees suddenly buckled. I felt myself leaning forward, losing balance. From that height, a fall could have been fatal.

But in that same instant, a man appeared from behind — out of nowhere — and caught me before I could fall. He held me steady until we reached the lobby.

Shaken but safe, I turned to thank him and offer a token of appreciation. Yet, to my surprise, he was gone. My wife and I looked around, but there was no sign of him anywhere.

To this day, we remember that moment with wonder. Who was he, and how did he come at just the right time?

Perhaps, in that quiet morning, God had sent an angel to hold me — just when I needed it most or …was it Jesus himself?

That morning reminded us that miracles often arrive quietly, without name or notice — only timing that could not be more perfect.

We hope that this whisper of grace stirs your heart to notice God’s quiet nearness in your own life.
