My Art as Praise: Glorifying God Through my Children & Grandchildren

My greatest inspirations are my grandchildren—Cayo (15), Maya (14), and Lucas (2). Each of them reflects God’s goodness in a unique way, but it is my youngest grandson, my brave little warrior Lucas, who has profoundly shaped how I use my art as an act of faith and thanksgiving.

Scripture reminds us that “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him” (Psalm 127:3). I see this truth lived out every day in my grandchildren. They are not only blessings entrusted to our family; they are daily reminders of God’s faithfulness, grace, and purposeful design—and they remind us to pause, appreciate, and give thanks for the simple joys and everyday blessings we so often take for granted.

From the very beginning, Lucas’ life has been marked by courage. Born with Down syndrome, he entered this world already teaching us what strength truly means. He spent 52 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a time filled with uncertainty, waiting, and constant prayer. In his short life, he has already undergone four surgeries and has been admitted twice for respiratory issues, each hospital stay deepening our reliance on the Lord.

Lucas is also deaf in one ear, and there is the possibility that he may need a cochlear implant in the future. These challenges are heavy for such a young child, yet his joy remains unwavering. His laughter, his expressions of wonder, and his quiet resilience are constant reminders that God’s strength is often made visible in ways the world may not expect.

When I paint Lucas, I am not simply creating a portrait—I am offering a prayer. Each brushstroke becomes an expression of gratitude, each layer of color a testimony of faith. Through my art, I am able to thank the Lord for the talent He has given me and to use it as a way of honoring His presence in our lives.

My art has become a reflection of whispered prayers in hospital rooms, of nights spent waiting on God, and of a peace that carries us through uncertainty. Scripture assures us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18), and I have witnessed this closeness in every step of Lucas’ journey.

This painting is not only about Lucas’ story—it is about God’s faithfulness, enduring hope, and love that never lets go. Through my grandchildren—Cayo, Maya, and Lucas—I am reminded daily that every life is precious, purposeful, and deeply loved.

As long as the Lord allows me to create, I will continue to use my art as an offering of praise, gratitude, and trust—thankful for both the miracles we see and the grace that sustains us through those we do not, with gratitude for His grace, both seen and unseen.
